BGA 59th Rankine Lecture
The 59th Rankine Lecture was delivered in March 2019 by Prof. Gazetas emeritus professor of the Soil Mechanics Laboratory. The Rankine Lecture is organized by the British Geotechnical Association annually, and is considered as the most prestigious among the invited lectures in geotechnics. Professor Gazetas’ lecture on ‘Benefits of Unconventional Seismic Foundation Design addresses the benefits of drastically changing the established philosophy in seismic foundation design; illustrating the technical advantages of the proposed unconventional designs with physical experiments, analyses, and field observations, involving a variety of structural systems and foundations.
